2017 Reading Stats

At the end of 2017, I thought that I could at least wiggle in a last completed book for the Modern Mrs. Darcy Challenge, but alas, it was not meant to be.

For ‘Reading for Fun,’ here are the books that I completed for each category:

Chosen for the Cover: “Fierce Kingdom”

Reputation for Being Un-put-downable: “Woman in Cabin 10”

Set Somewhere I’ve Never Been But Would Like to Visit: “Memoirs of a Geisha”

Juicy Memoir: “It’s Not OK: Turning Heartbreak Into Happily Ever After”

About Books or Reading: “End of Your Life Book Club”

In a Genre I Usually Avoid: “Lab Girl”

Don’t Want to Admit I’m Dying to Read: “We Are Never Meeting in Real Life”

Backlist of a New Favorite Author: “The Husband’s Secret” and “The Hypnotist’s Love Story”

Recommended by Someone with Great Taste: “The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper”

Excited to Buy or Borrow But Haven’t Read Yet: “Tell Me Three Things”

About a Topic of Subject I Already Love: “Dark Matter”

I fell short in not getting around to a Book I Already Read: “The Keep” or “Shadow of the Wind”

For ‘Reading for Growth,’ here are the books I completed for each category:

Book in Translation: “A Man Called Ove”

Book of Poetry, Play, or Essay Collection: “Other Wordly”

Book of Any Genre That Addresses Current Events: “The Hate U Give”

Immigrant Story: “Homegoing”

Book Published Before I was Born: “The Little Prince”

Book By an #OwnVoices or Diverse Books Author: “News of the World”

Book with an Unreliable Narrator or Ambiguous Ending: “The Child”

Pulitzer Prize or National Book Award: “Lincoln in the Bardo”

I fell short in not quite finishing: my Newberry Award or Honor Winner, which was “The Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler;” my Book with More Than 600 pages, which was “The Goldfinch;” and Three Books by the Same Author, which was Rainbow Rowell, but I did finish two out of the three with “Fangirl” and “Eleanor and Park.”

In looking at my stats on GoodReads, I read a total of 20, 957 pages and the following were the books I gave five stars:

“The End of Your Life Book Club”

“Dark Matter”

“Small Great Things”

“This Is How It Always Is”

“The Versions of Us”

“A Man Called Ove”

“The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper”

Looking forward to how  my reading life in 2018 will turn out.
